Why Special Precautions Matter
Drilling into amalgam releases mercury vapor and particles. Without protection, you and the dental team can inhale or absorb mercury. The SMART protocol uses high-volume suction, rubber dams, and other barriers to keep exposure as low as possible.
What the Protocol Includes
Water spray to cool the filling and reduce vapor, a rubber dam to isolate the tooth, high-volume evacuators, and sometimes nasal hoods or oxygen. We also consider your overall health and may suggest detox support if you have multiple fillings replaced.
